Kickboxing
Karate kicks and boxing punches, from semi-contact to full-contact, for juniors and adults.
Kickboxing was born in the early seventies from a combination of karate kicking techniques and boxing punches. Dominique Valera was the first to introduce and develop it in Europe. It is a combat sport practised with feet and fists under precise rules, requiring technical knowledge, good physical condition, tactical intelligence, flexibility and a lot of determination.
To minimise the risk of injury, practitioners wear foot and shin guards, gloves, a helmet, a mouthguard and a groin guard or chest protector.
Competition formats
- Semi-contact
- Techniques are controlled and only scored. The fight is stopped after each point. Ideal for young people, the risk of injury is minimal.
- Light-contact
- Like semi-contact, but the fight is only stopped in case of a foul.
- Full-contact
- Strikes are delivered without restraint and a knockout is possible. Solid light-contact experience is essential.
- Full-contact with low kicks
- A variant of full-contact where strikes to the thighs are allowed.
- Musical forms
- Sequences simulating a fight without an opponent, scored by judges, with or without music, with or without weapons.
