Goju-Ryu Karate
A traditional "hard and soft" karate style from Okinawa, combining power, breathing and stable stances.
Goju-Ryu is a "soft and hard" karate style originating from the Naha-Te of Okinawa. It was founded by Chojun Miyagi in 1926; its Japanese branch flourished thanks to his student Gogen Yamaguchi, a legendary master nicknamed "the cat".
A style that has remained quite traditional, it combines techniques from various Chinese schools with the ancestral foundations of Okinawa. It is strongly influenced by southern Chinese methods, with the same importance given to breathing and internal energy.
Characteristics of the style
- Natural, stable and powerful stances. Sanchin-dachi, the most characteristic, is found in every Goju-Ryu kata.
- Often circular, short strikes and movements in half-circles, aimed at vital points.
- Low kicks only, mainly mae-geri and kansetsu-geri.
- Audible abdominal breathing.
The club is affiliated to the AVFK, which lets our karatekas try sport karate competition.
